Latest window covering trends – How to make your home look like a display home.
The minimal look
Gone are the heavy window coverings and in are the simple shades. One way to do this well is with using simple fabric or designer upholstered fabric on the pelmets. These quickly can become the feature of the room and by using a neutral colour sheer curtain, blinds or shutters the room really feels open.
Natural light is also a must for any new home, particularly when it comes to the kitchen. Whether it be by the way of a wall cut out behind your bench that overlooks your garden as a splashback or drop down roller blinds, or shutters, as long as they offer privacy and still allow plenty of light your choice will be a winner.
When it comes to natural light in other areas of the home, too much direct sunlight can be an issue. It makes it hot and unpleasant to live in. A great way to soften light in these areas is with the use of a simple wood blind or woven wood shades, these will filter the light without looking too heavy.
If you’re going to use curtains and fabrics, make sure it is contemporary colour and that you follow this colour throughout your home.
Mix pattern with plain, coordinating a print in the valance or cornice (Pelmet) with another plain colour as the actual curtains or blinds as a nice element to any room. Coordinate this colour throughout the home in cushions, throws, place mats and ornaments to really enhance the theme.
Keep the kitchen and bathroom areas light and make use of cool colours as this will make it look larger and brighter, while darker colours can make an oversized kitchen more inviting.
Another hot trend at the moment is by introducing textures to your window coverings. The use of Roman shades made of rattan, bamboo or other natural fibres, add visual interest with their texture and can really compliment modern Bali, beach and French provincial décor.
