A guide to: Choosing the perfect flooring for your Bedroom

May 19, 2014

When it comes to choosing flooring for your bedroom, the choice you make often reflects your personality in a way that is far more personal than anywhere else in the house. It is for this reason that we recommend really taking your time to choose the perfect flooring for your haven – aka your bedroom.

CarpetBy far the most popular choice, carpets in a bedroom give you a warmth that no other flooring option can. We’ll focus a bit on the four most common types of carpeting are pattern, texture (or texture plush), loop (Berber) and frieze (twist or shag) to help you make your choice a little more easily:

Pattern Carpets

Pattern carpets come in many designs, patterns and colour options but are more often found in large spaces such as living rooms, dining rooms, and basements

Textured carpet

Textured carpeting is the most common type used by homeowners in bedrooms because of the many colour options, types, low cost and durability.

Coloured carpets

Looped carpeting, also known as Berber, is, most durable and expensive – great for basements not really for the bedroom…

Shaggy Carpet

Finally frieze, shag, or twisted carpeting is the most popular carpeting type used in bedrooms because it’s casual, durable, cozy and offers many traditional, contemporary and modern options.

Wood and Bamboo

Natural fibre hard flooring is fast becoming a popular choice for flooring in the bedroom due to it’s stylish looks and it’s durable, easy to clean nature. Whilst it doesn’t quite offer the same coziness as carpets in the bedroom, it can be warmed up with rugs. If it’s luxury style you’re after, then this may be the flooring for you.

Whilst more commonly suited to wet areas and heavy traffic areas like kitchens, bathrooms and main living areas, tiles are steadily gaining popularity in the bedroom. Still far behind it’s carpet and hardwood counterparts, tiles suits a very specific type of person with a very specific type of look. Whilst it is very difficult to make tiles look warm and inviting in the bedroom, very few flooring options give you the same sense of stand-offish style. To beat the chill underfoot in winter, add some under-floor heating.

Those are our top picks for flooring in the bedroom. As always, we’d love to help you make your choice a little more easily. Ring us on 1800 016 016 to arrange a personal appointment with one of our style specialists or visit our website.

A guide to: Choosing the perfect flooring for your bathroom

May 12, 2014

Choosing the flooring for your bathroom can be extremely fun and extremely stressful all at the same time! Unlike your kitchen flooring, bathrooms can be totally different from the rest of the house, or they can keep the same theme. Either way, your bathrooms are often the most judged room in your house so it’s important to get it right. Here are a few of our favourite choices:

Unsurprisingly, tiles are one of the most popular flooring choices for bathrooms. Due to the fact the most people tile their bathroom walls at the same time as their bathrooms, tiling your floor in complimenting styles and colours to your walls can really help you make a statement. Another reason tiles are so popular – and probably one of the most obvious reasons – they’re really great for heavily used wet areas! Tiles are hard wearing, available in a variety of styles and colours and relatively easy to look after, and it doesn’t hurt that no matter your budget, you’re sure to find a tile that fits it!

Wood as a flooring option in your bathroom simply oozes class and style. This option is particularly good for those who have wood floors through-out their home. A big advantage of wood is that it’s a timeless choice that never really loses popularity – unlike some of its tile counterparts (who can forget the classic 70’s orange and khaki). Wooden flooring can be a little heavy on the budget however and does need to be maintained regularly to ensure its properly sealed.

Highly sustainable, durable and (for engineered options) ideal for wet environments, bamboo is fast becoming one of the most popular choices in flooring for the bathroom. Relatively new to flooring world, bamboo is already becoming a real fashion statement. The good here is that it can be a less expensive option to wood flooring although still not as inexpensive as some tiling options.

If you’re on a tight budget and need something that’s easily maintained and available in a HUGE variety of styles, textures, shapes and colours, then vinyl is the flooring for your bathroom. Make sure you choose a top quality option for your bathroom flooring though, as some of the cheaper options (especially peel-and-stick types) can be prone to leaks.

A great unsung hero in today’s homes – Cork is a highly sustainable flooring option that is perfectly suited to the bathroom… especially given that it’s resistant to water, mould and mildew! It’s relatively cost-effective, although cork will need regular sealing and maintenance. Another advantage of cork is that it feels wonderful underfoot and will feel warmer in winter.

There you have our top picks for bathroom flooring. We’ll be running through our favourite picks in bedrooms next week. Of course if you’d like to arrange a private appointment to discuss your needs with one of our style experts, please be in touch on 1800 016 016 or visit our website.

A guide to: Choosing the perfect floor for your kitchen

May 8, 2014

Your kitchen floor, besides being practical and durable, is a major design statement as well and most often sets the tone for your whole living area. The type of floor you choose affects every other element of your home design and with the variety of materials, colours and textures available today, your choices are nearly endless. One thing that’s important to note however, is that even though there is so much available, this is one time that you certainly can make the wrong choice!

Here are our top picks for kitchen flooring:

  • Wood & Bamboo: one of the most popular choices for today’s kitchens. Both stylish and natural, wood and bamboo feel good underfoot and create a warm look for your home. Specially treated and sealed, these options are extremely hard wearing. If budget is limited though, wood may not be the preferred option.
  • Vinyl: A fantastic alternative to wood and bamboo for those doing their kitchen on a budget. It’s a  resilient flooring that offers a variety of styles and colours in either tiles or sheets.
  • 1003298_10151806601516019_20287889_nTiles: a great choice for high traffic areas like your kitchen – available in a huge variety of colours, shapes, designs, textures and prices, you’re sure to be able to find a tile that fits your personal style, budget and home.
  • Limestone: if it’s an old world look you’re after, then limestone can be a great choice. One key thing to remember with limestone however is that t’s a porous material that must be sealed upon installation and then twice a year.
  • Cork: A lovely durable, versatile material available in a variety of colors. It feels great underfoot, it’s  water-resistant and as an added bonus, it reduces impact noise – great for those with kitchens on higher floors.

Well there you have it, our top picks for kitchen floors. We hope this has helped you make that tough decision a little more easily.

Why Andersens?

April 7, 2014

With so many retailers to choose from, it’s no wonder customers ask the question “Why you?” when it comes to choosing one for their flooring and window coverings needs. Whilst there are many, many reasons customers choose Andersens – we’re the largest retailer in QLD and Northern NSW, we have QLD’s biggest warehouse, with an enormous product range to name a few – we thought we’d give you some reasons that were a little different…

Our customers satisfaction is our number one priority.

Whilst most retailers undoubtedly claim this to be true for themselves, few actually put their money where their mouth is. At Andersens we live by the motto “Acta non Verba” – Actions, not words – which is why we offer our clients the 30 day satisfaction guarantee. Our staff are specially trained to offer you the perfect flooring choice – and we don’t just say that, we guarantee it! If you’re unsatisfied with your carpeting choice at any stage within the first 30 days, we’ll replace it for you.

The environment is extremely important to us

Which is why we offer several eco-friendly, sustainable flooring options. We were one of the first in QLD to offer bamboo as a flooring option. Bamboo is not only an attractive choice in your home, it’s also one of the best environmentally friendly choices available.

We make it easy and convenient for our customers

With over 50 stores across QLD and Northern NSW, there’s sure to be an Andersens conveniently situated near your home. If, however, you find yourself unable to make it to your local Andersens store, we’ll come to you! We offer our customer the Showroom on Wheels, which as it’s name suggests, is a mini showroom that will conveniently come to you.

We aim to give our customers an experience

We’re not just talking about good service here – although that is our number one priority – we’re talking about giving you something a little different. That is why we developed iDESIGN, a handy little tool that will digitally show you how different flooring options could look in your home. Whilst many retailers are now coming out with similar tools, Andersens was the first to introduce this kind of experience – and we’re not stopping there! Constantly looking for ways to innovate and offer our clients a unique experience, we’ve got a lot more planned…

So there you have it – 4 slightly different reasons that answer the question “Why Andersens?”

We’d love to help you choose the perfect floor and window options for your home that will fit your style and budget. Call us on 1800 016 016 to arrange a personal appointment with one of our experts, or visit our website.

Whether it’s the clean cut lines of a Japanese garden, the heady atmosphere of Morocco, a sunset over the savannah or the explosion of colours in India, Global Fusion ties them all together with style and is one of the hottest trends in interior fashion this year.

Focusing on creating an earthy ambience and culture, this look is for you if you like the glamour of travel and exotic destinations.

Global Fusion takes the best of traditional cultures and artfully mixes them together, which means natural material is the name of the game.

Aged timbers grace the floors inside with Oak being a hot favourite. Timber floors are no longer restrained to living areas – we’re seeing bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchens all adorned in wood!

Windows are dressed in either natural bamboo & timber verticals or sheer gauzy curtains over tucked away block-out blinds – this look is popular with a number of different looks and really serves to soften blinds without reverting to traditional curtains.

Décor for the Global Fusion look includes colourful cushions casually strewn over neutrally toned fabric or leather lounges with wood furniture tying it all together.
